Woman receives mystery box with stranger's personal information

A California woman has received an unexplained box from FedEx that was full of someone else's credit card information along with medical records.

Jerry Crabtree has no idea why the documents were sent to her and apparently Reckner, the company that the shipping label was from, doesn't know either.

“We don’t handle medical records, we don’t handle credit card receipts, we don’t. That’s not our business. We would never have come into possession of those," said David Reckner.

The company explained that they did send Crabtree a package, but that it was a box of breakfast cereal for company research.

WCSC noted that the package weighed seven pounds. The California resident is unhappy that she is stuck with the box of information and does not feel comfortable holding on to it.

“I thought it was mine, until you start going through pages and pages, and you realize it’s got somebody else’s name, somebody else’s social security number, their address, their phone numbers, their subscriber number, their health insurance information,” she said.

"I don't want to hang onto this any longer than I have to. I don't want to be responsible for this. I feel guilty for looking to see if I was in here as it was," Crabtree explained.

Yahoo! News noted that FedEx only does what the label tells them to do.

"FedEx follows delivery instructions based on the information provided by the shipper. In this case we delivered the package according to the address the shipper placed on the label. As in all cases, recipients should immediately contact the shipper to resolve any issues with the package contents and, if appropriate, return the contents to the shipper," said Scott Fiedler, spokesperson for FedEx.

No one has any idea who sent the box or why.
