Yogi Berra’s wife of 65 years has died

New York Yankee all-time great Yogi Berra’s wife of 65 years has died after having complications from a recent stroke.

According to MLB.com, his wife, Carmen, died in Montclair, New Jersey on Thursday night from complications of a stroke suffered earlier this year. She was 85.

The New York Daily News reported that the couple, whose love affair was as legendary as his baseball career, had celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in late January.

Yogi and his wife had three children together. Two of their sons went on to pursue baseball and football careers. The couple also has 11 grandchildren.
After her death, Yankees managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner released the following statement.

“On behalf of the entire New York Yankees organization, we offer our deepest condolences to the Berra family," the statement read. “Having known Yogi and Carmen for so long, it is almost impossible to imagine two people who complemented each other better than they did. We will always remember Carmen’s smile and sense of humor, and her kindness and generosity will be dearly missed.”

Yogi Berra, 88, spent his 19-year playing career with the Bronx Bombers.
