Brad Pitt to star as Gen. Stanley McChrystal in David Michod's 'The Operators'

Brad Pitt is reportedly set to star as Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the former U.S. commander in Afghanistan, who was forced to resign after a damaging Rolling Stone piece was published in 2010. Australian director David Michod, who made the acclaimed Animal Kingdom, is set to direct.

Michod will write the script with Pitt’s Plan B, Brett Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment and New Regency, reports The Los Angeles Times. The story will be based on Michael Hastings’ book The Operators, which expanded upon his Rolling Stone piece “The Runaway General.” In that article, McChrystal openly criticized the Obama Administration. After it was published, McChrystal resigned.

Pitt has recently shown an interest in World War II movies, having made Inglorious Basterds in 2009 and then David Ayer’s Fury, which just wrapped production. There were reports earlier this month that he is also considering another WWII drama.

The actor did recently win his first Oscar as a producer on 12 Years A Slave, in which he also co-starred. Plan B also acquired an article about the Steubenville rape case and the role of an Anonymous hacker, which would also be turned into a film with the help of RatPac and New Regency.
