Brandy and Ryan Press have ended their engagement

Back in December 2012, singer Brandy and music executive Ryan press got engaged. The two have just announced that they have mutually decided to call off the engagement.

Rumors about the two breaking up started to pop up around February when Brandy was spotted without her engagement ring at the NAACP Non-Televised Awards ceremony, as well as at her birthday party.

The two have both agreed that it isn’t working for them anymore, but have decided to remain friends. Us Weekly reports a rep for Brandy has said in a statement that, “They are no longer together. The engagement is off, but the friendship is still on. They decided to take a step back and reevaluate the relationship.” Her rep also added, “They haven’t ended things on a bad note and they still speak all the time.”

Brandy is now 35, and wants to focus on her own life. She wants to not only reevaluate the relationship, but everything personally going on in her life as well. “That’s what her whole #35 on Twitter is about,” her rep said. “Becoming her own woman.”

Although Brandy has an 11-year-old daughter with her ex, Robert Smith, this would have been her first marriage. Brandy does want to be married eventually, and definitely wants more kids, “but she is working on so many other things right now,” her rep added.

Back in 2012, before the two were engaged, Brandy couldn’t be happier about her relationship with Press. She even claimed that he had restored her faith in men. She had stopped looking for love, but she found somebody who finally loved her for who she really is.

According to E! News, Brandy was most recently on VH1’s Morning Buzz on Tuesday, but she did not mention the break-up at all. Her seventh album is in the works, and it is assumed that she will most likely sing about the breakup on it. “It’s gonna be a very personal album for me…it’s about my life and a lot of things I’ve been going through lately, so I can’t wait for that,” the singer said. “I’ma be hollerin’ a lot on this album!”
