'Dancing with the Stars' gets new showrunner for future seasons

ABC’s Dancing with the Stars will get a new showrunner for future seasons of the show, that is if it survives past the current season. Rob Wade will take over from Conrad Green if it gets picked up for a 19th cycle.

Wade is a longtime DWTS producer, having been with the show for its first 11 seasons. He was co-executive producer from season five to 11 in 2010, reports Deadline.

“Rob was a part of the DWTS family from the very beginning and in our mind, there was no one who made more sense to come aboard and take the show into its next era than him,” BBC Worldwide chief Jane Tranter said in a statement. BBC Worldwide produces the show.

Wade’s co-executive producers will include Ashley Edens-Shaffer and Joe Sungkur.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wade was most recently the head of SyCo Entertainment North America’s television division. There, he was an executive producer on the recently cancelled X Factor and NBC’s America’s Got Talent.

DWTS was recently trimmed to just one, two-hour block a week on Mondays, but still gets two cycles per TV season. The show recently saw Brooke Burke-Charvet leave as co-host with Erin Andrews replacing her. Despite those changes and low ratings, it will still likely get renewed, because if not, ABC will have to find two new shows to fill those slots.
