FBI searching for more victims of ‘prolific’ child predator

FBI agents in Houston said Tuesday that they are trying to find more victims of William James Vahey, a suspected child predator who taught in schools around the world. The FBI has called him one of the most “prolific” predator suspects they have ever seen.

The bureau believes that the case may involve as much as 90 victims, reports CNN Houston affiliate KPRC. Vahey, 64, committed suicide in March after the FBI started its investigation following a Houston federal judge’s ruling that officials could search a thumb drive that allegedly contained photos of child sexual assault.

Vahey, who was arrested for child molestation in California in 1969, has a home in South Carolina, but killed himself in Minnesota. It’s not known why he was in that state. The reason why the Houston FBI bureau was involved is because they were called in by Nicaragua to look at images from Vahey’s time at the American School there. The bureau believes that these images showed Vahey in the act of his crimes.

According to CNN, when Vahey was asked about the images he “reportedly admitted molesting boys throughout his entire life and said he gave the minors sleeping pills prior to the molestation,” according to the FBI.

MyFoxHouston reports that, of the victims the FBI is aware of, they were in the 12 to 14 age group.

The FBI believes that he taught in nine schools from around the world, spending time in London, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Venezuela, Greece, Iran, Spain and Lebanon. He taught several subjects and coached basketball.
