'How I Met Your Mother' star Neil Patrick Harris speaks about about series finale (Video)

In a recent interview on The Late Show with David Letterman, How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris spoke about about the series finale, which sparked a wide range of reactions from fans all across the world.

Harris said that it wasn't the happy ending that people were expecting but that he was with very pleased with how everything turned out, Entertainment Weekly reported.

The finale featured Ted, who is played by Josh Radnor, getting back together with Robin, played by Cobie Smulders. This happens after the death of the Mother. The mother was played by Cristin
Milioti and fans instantly fell in love with her portrayal of the character.

“It wasn’t necessarily the happy ending that people were expecting," explained Harris. "But Carter [Bays] and Craig [Thomas], who were once writers on your show and the executive producers and creators, knew this ending years ago and had played towards that. And I was a big proponent of it and a big fan of it.”

Fans expressed outrage over the finale and that the relationship with Barney and Robin did not last. “At the end of the day, it’s not always meant to be that way,”said Harris.

Deadline reported that when the last season is released on DVD, it will feature an alternate ending to the show.
Harris can currently be seen on Broadway starring in Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
