Mariah Carey says she wants to do 'Beyonce'-style release for 14th album

Mariah Carey is hoping to learn a lesson from Beyonce Knowles, who released her latest album as a complete surprise in December. Carey is still working on her long-gestating 14th album and is hoping to rebound with a Beyonce-style release.

In an interview with Billboard, the singer said that she plans on dropping everything about the album - the art, the tracks, the title and the music - all at once online without announcing a date.

“I have to be the one that announces this, especially the title,” Carey told the magazine. She added that the title comes from a “personal possession of mine that's part of an entity that I've had almost all my life.”

Beyonce surprised the entire music industry in December by dropping Beyonce with no warning whatsoever. The album was exclusively on iTunes for a week before its physical release, a plan that Carey hopes to follow.

Of course, Carey is forgetting one part of Beyonce’s strategy. The “Drunk in Love” never told anyone that she planned on releasing her follow-up to 4 that way. Now that Carey has told everyone that she plans on copying Beyonce, it won’t be much of a surprise when the album comes out.

Carey is hoping that her 14th album will revive her career. She hasn’t released an album since 2009’s Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, which only featured one Top 10 hit. She also told Billboard that she’s not retiring after the new album comes out.

“I will always make music,” Carey said. “When I said it could be my last, that's because tomorrow's not promised to anyone.”
