Marquette taps Duke's Steve Wojciechowski to be head coach

Marquette has snatched away a longtime Duke assistant to be the team's next head coach, replacing Buzz Williams.

Marquette is set to announce the hiring of associate head coach Steve Wojciechowski as the team's new head coach at a Tuesday news conference, reports Fox Sports.

Since Wojciechowski joined the staff 15 years ago, the Blue Devils have gone to the Final Four three times and won two national championships, one in 2001 and the other in 2010. Duke has also won the ACC tournament championship nine times as well as snagging the ACC's regular season championship five times.

The assistant head coach has also joined Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski for the Olympics twice, and will be an assistant coach for the upcoming 2016 Olympics.

According to ESPN, Wojciechowski said in a statement, "I come from an environment where the expectation is to win, and that is why I chose Marquette." He added, "I am particularly impressed with Marquette's investment in men's basketball and I'm thrilled to join an institution with so much rich history in both basketball and academic excellence."

After a 17-15 regular season and failure to make the postseason, former Marquette head coach Williams moved on to coach at Virginia Tech.
