Meg Ryan tapped to narrate 'How I Met Your Dad' with Greta Gerwig

How I Met Your Dad has its narrator. Meg Ryan will provide the voice of Sally, the character Greta Gerwig is set to play.

Ryan will be holding a job similar to Bob Saget, who voiced the older version of Josh Radnor’s Ted Mosby for How I Met Your Mother. According to Deadline, Ryan will not be seen on the show, just like Saget. In fact, even in the HIMYM finale, Saget did not get to actually play older Ted on screen.

Ryan is best known for her roles in some of the most beloved romantic comedies in film history. She starred in When Harry Met Sally..., Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail, among others. Entertainment Weekly reports that this will be her first regular prime time network gig.

CBS and producer 20th Century Fox TV did not comment on the reports of Ryan’s casting. The pilot has already been filmed and Deadline notes that it is a favorite to get picked up.

Gerwig has promised that the series will be different from HIMYM, which angered fans with its finale. The Frances Ha actress’ series will start with her getting a divorce and trying to find her true love.

Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, the team behind HIMYM, wrote the pilot with Up All Night’s Emily Spivey.

Back in October, Ryan did sign on to do an NBC pilot from Marc Lawrence, but there’s been no news on that.
