Mircea Monroe and Joelle Carter raise awareness for the homeless

Episodes’ Mircea Monroe and Justified’s Joelle Carter are two of the celebrities raising awareness about charities that are important to them. Recently, they spent their time chatting with people about Covenant House, an organization that prevents homelessness. Monroe and Carter lent their star power to the cause and participated in the Second Annual Sleep Out: Young Professionals Edition.

Covenant House California (CHC) is a non-profit agency whose mission is to get youth off of the streets. They take an approach that looks at ways to keep people off the streets after they have been homeless. Covenant House assists with jobs and permanent housing for the at-risk youth.

Monroe said in an interview for The Hollywood Reporter, “It was a crazy experience, to be outside on the pavement and realize that some of these kids are doing that every night.”

Patrick S. McCabe, executive director of CHC, gave statistics for homeless youth in California. He said that California has more than 20,000 who are living on streets due to extraordinary circumstances. McCabe said, “The Young Professional sleepers’ commitment to helping homeless youth will not only provide financial support but will send a message that we believe in these youth and their dreams for a better life.”

The Second Annual Sleep Out: Young Professionals Edition was held at Covenant locations in six cities, and the California branch of Covenant House raised $27,000 with the help of donations.

Carter told Fox LA, says that Covenant House is “a great organization.” Carter plays Ava Crowder, a character who is locked up and accused of murder on the FX's hit show Justified. Carter is in her Fifth Season on the show.
