Mom who got high, drove with baby on roof, gets probation

A Phoenix woman who got high and drove off with her baby on the car roof avoided jail time and was instead given probation.

According to CBS5, Catalina Mariah Clouser was sentenced to 16 years of supervised probation and a three-month deferred jail sentence.

In February, the marijuana-smoking mother pleaded guilty to child abuse and misdemeanor DUI. On Wednesday, Maricopa County Judge Cynthia Bailey handed down the sentence.

The New York Daily News noted that Clouser was charged in 2012 after she left her child on the roof of her vehicle, in the car seat and drove off. The 19-year-old did not even realize her infant son was not in the vehicle with her until she got home.

The five-week-old was found in the middle of an intersection. Amazingly, he was alive and unharmed.

Authorities said prior to leaving the baby on the roof she had been at a friend’s house smoking pot because she was upset with her boyfriend.
