Neil Young has embraced the marketing technique of not marketing new music at all. The music legend released an album for online sale on Friday without any promotion or advance warning for fans that they could purchase the album.
The cover album, A Letter Home, was released a day before Record Store Day, on Jack White’s Third Man Records online shop, Billboard reported.
The album will be sold in stores starting on Saturday. The album can currently be bought on Jack White’s website for Third Man Records for $20 with shipping and handling. This album was recored in the “Third Man Recording Booth” using a refurbished 1947 Voice-o-Graph machine.
Many of the songs that appear on the album have been performed live recent by Young at shows. The covers range from Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson to the Every Brothers.
Young described the record as “rediscovered songs from the past recorded on ancient electro mechanical technology captures and unleashes the essence of something that could have been gone forever.”
