Pregnant woman booted from gym for exposed baby bump

A pregnant woman was allegedly told to leave a Planet Fitness center in South Carolina because her exposed baby bump was showing and violated the gym’s dress code.

According to WCIV, Melissa Mantor, claims that she was approached by a gym employee on Monday and asked to leave the facility because her "belly was hanging out." Mantor is 18 weeks pregnant.

She alleged that while she was on the treadmill a female worker came over to her and said that she either needed to cover up her exposed bump or get out.

Mantor said that she was confused by the employee’s ultimatum and after explaining that she was pregnant was told that her outfit was still inappropriate.

Planet Fitness has made headlines in the past for booting gym members who violate the chain’s strict dress code. The Daily Mail noted that last month even an employee was allegedly sent home for wearing a religious head covering to work.

The workout chain released a statement saying that most Planet Fitness clubs are franchised and a specific dress code can be enforced by management. The location in question bans midriff tops in the gym.

Mantor has since canceled her membership.
