Spike Lee directs music video for Eminem's 'Marshall Mathers LP 2' song 'Headlights' in Detroit

Eminem has enlisted famed director Spike Lee to work with him on his music video for “Headlights,” which appears on The Marshall Mathers LP 2.

The video was shot in Eminem’s home city of Detroit, Michigan and the rapper posted a photo of himself with the director on Instagram.

“Spike came out to The D for the "Headlights" video... Coming soon,” he wrote.

The song is about Eminem making amends with his mother, Debbie Mathers, who he has had a very tumultuous relationship with throughout the years. He often raps about his disdain for her in his songs.

"Ma, you're still beautiful to me because you're my mom. I love you, Debbie Mathers." he says in “Headlights.”

It’s an honor that Lee’s photo made it up on Eminem’s Instagram page, as he’s not very active on the social media site. MTV News notes he now has only 43 posts in total.

Lee has an impressive resume of films that he directed, but he’s also known as a music video director. Some of his work includes Public Enemy's "Fight the Power" and Naughty by Nature's "Hip Hop Hooray.”
