As a celebrity, it can sometimes be hard to show who you truly are because you’re constantly in the spot light. But when it comes to coming out as gay, many celebrities aren’t bothered by what anyone has to say about it, and they shouldn’t be. There are the usual suspects in Hollywood who are gay and proud like Elton John and Ellen DeGeneres, but there are also some who you may have no idea about.
Sometimes, you may not even realize that the actor you’re watching on your favorite show is gay because they play such an amazing straight character. And then there are some actors, like Jesse Tyler Ferguson in Modern Family, who plays Mitchell, a gay character and is also gay in real life. But his on screen significant other, Cam, played by Eric Stonestreet, isn’t gay at all but plays a gay character perfectly.
Because it’s an actor’s job to play a character that they may not actually resemble at all, it’s hard to tell who may be gay and who may not be. There have been many stars over the years that have openly come out as gay. Some have received backlash, while others have gained supporters and fans they never knew they could have. It’s hard for celebrities to sometimes be open about their sexuality, but these 10 actors have come out for the whole world to know, and they’re not ashamed of being gay. Here’s who TheCelebrityCafe.com believes are the top 10 openly gay actors…
