‘The Voice’ finale night one

It all comes down to this. The final three performed on The Voice tonight for America’s vote. The final three included; Christina Grimme, representing Team Adam, Jake Worthington from Team Blake and Josh Kaufman from Team Usher. Each vocalist will sing a new song, a duet with their coach and perform a favorite from their season.

Christina Grimmie opened up the show with her performance of Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.” Shelton started off the comments by saying that he wasn’t surprised that this is the song that America chose for Grimmie because that is the artist that he has been excited about. Usher added that this song choice takes him back to the blind auditions when he first wanted Grimmie on his team. Shakira added that Grimmie has the highest register in the competition. Coach Levine closed out the comments by adding that he was proud of Grimmie and that he felt like he was watching Grimmie perform this as her single outside of the Voice stage.

Josh Kaufman and his coach Usher took on a Police classic for their debut, “Every Breath You Take.”

Next up to the Voice stage was Jake Worthington who performed “Keith Whitley's "Don't Close Your Eyes." His performance brought coach Blake Shelton to his feet in applause. Usher kicked off the comments by saying that it was impressive to see Worthington grow as an artist and that song was a great performance. Shakira added that Worthington really has creditability when it comes to being a country artist. Levine said that it is even more important to have a memorable tone and voice and that is what Worthington brings to each performance. Coach Blake added that he has so much respect for Worthington.

Taking a break from the performances coaches Shakira and Shelton took to the stage to perform “Medicine” which is featured on Shakira latest album.

Josh Kaufman performed America’s pick “Signed, Sealed Delivered,” by Stevie Wonder. Starting off the comments was Shakira who said that his voice has such charisma and is very dynamic that no one could get bored listening to Kaufman sing. Levine added that it was like twisting the knife because Kaufman sang that song in the battle rounds and he was stolen from Team Usher. Shelton said that he really sang the heck out of this song. Coach Usher added that this show needed something that was soulful and that this is what he has with Kaufman.

Next up to Voice stage was Levine and Grimmie with their debut who took on “Somebody That I Used To Know.”

Jake Worthington followed that performance with his own version of Richard Marx’s “I'll Be Right Here Waiting For You.” Usher started off the comments by saying that it was a spotless performance and that Worthington was a classic country artist. Shakira added that he has really been making the songs new again for a new generation. Levine said that he really could hear the tone and the strength in his voice during this performance. Shelton added that Worthington really has a way of engaging the audience and that is a trait that only a true country artist has.

Before the final performances of the night could take place, Levine and Usher joined each other on stage to perform “Untitled (How Does It Feel).”

For his final performance of the night, Jake Worthington teamed up with his Coach Blake to perform “Country Boy Can’t Survive” which was originally performed by Hank Williams Jr.

Christina Grimmie ended her competition time on the Voice with a performance of “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” Shelton started off the comments by saying that he was very proud of far Grimie had come. Shakira added this was not a safe choice but this is her trademark as an artist. Coach Adam said that she couldn’t make her vocal too loud on this song but that showed off the technical ability of the song.

For Team Usher’s final performance of the night Josh Kaufman put his own unique spin on Adele’s “Set Fire To The Rain.” By the end of the performance Usher was standing up from his chair yelling in celebration. Levine just extended his hand and let the audience cheer before he could start his comments. He said that Kaufman was super amazing. Coach Usher closed out the comments by saying throughout this process Kaufman had wanted to represent soul and that he represents something different and courageous.

The finale will concluded tomorrow night on NBC and the winner will be announced live.
