Former 'ER' star Mekhi Phifer files for bankruptcy

Mekhi Phifer, best known for his roles in ER and Eminem’s 8 Mile, has filed for bankruptcy.

The actor filed the paperwork last month and claimed he was about $1.3 million in debt but only having $67,000 total in assets. He claimed he made $7,500 a month but his expenses amount to $11,600.

According to TMZ, among the only assets he owns are a $1,500 Segway, a leather bed and a collection of guns.
Phifer has $50,000 in attorney’s bills on top of his dire financial situation and he is $4,500 behind on child support payments.

Hip Hop Hollywood reports Phifer and his longtime girlfriend Reshelet Barnes got married last year to at the MontageHotel in Beverly Hills.

Despite filing for bankruptcy, Pifer has been steadily working. This year he appeared in the series House of Lies as Dre Collins and he also appeared in the television movie A Day Late and a Dollar Short. He will next appear in Insurgent with Shailene Woodley and Theo James, based on the novel.
