HGTV cancels reality series 'Flip It Forward' after anti-gay statements from David Benham surface

Just hours after anti-gay statements from Flip It Forward co-host David Benham surfaced, HGTV announced that it will not continue with the new show. Benham was going to host the show with his twin brother, Jason Benham.

HGTV announced its decision on its Facebook page in a one-sentence statement. “HGTV has decided not to move forward with the Benham Brothers' series,” the cable network said.

The post came just hours after Right Wing Watch reported on Benham’s previous statements against homosexuality and abortion. According to the site, their father is the leader of the anti-abortion group Operation Save America. As for Benham himself, he told a conservative radio host that a prayer rally outside the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte was needed to “homosexuality and its agenda that is attacking the nation.”

Raw Story reports that Benham also said in 2012 that he was working to get North Carolina’s Amendment One passed, which would ban same-sex marriage in the state. Benham has also wrote a Christian Post piece in 2012 explaining his position.

“For the men on the other side of this vote, I’ll say a couple of things: You’ll never find the love of a father in the arms of another man,” Benham wrote in the Post. “The emotional hurt that you’ve experienced can only be healed through a life-giving relationship with the very one that created you.”

Benham is also a member of the Coalition of Conscience board and called Muslims “the enemy attacking” America, reports Raw Story.
