'House of Cards' star Reg E. Cathey joins 'Fantastic Four' Reboot

While Reg E. Cathey has been a character actor in the business for years, it wasn't until he played Freddy in Netflix's House of Cards that he truly became noticed by the public at large. Apparently, that exposure has helped him go on to bigger and better things.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cathey has been cast as Doctor Storm. He will be joining his fellow House of Cards star Kate Mara as he will play her character, Sue's, father in Josh Trank's reboot of the comic book series.

What is most significant about this casting, according to Badass Digest, is that the film will seemingly fall in line with the Ultimates universe.

As they note, "In mainstream 616-Marvel Universe Dr. Storm is a physician, but in the Ultimate universe he’s a doctor who is involved in the science project that creates the Fantastic Four. He also fires Harvey Elder from the program, leading to him becoming Mole Man."

The part of Elder was also recently cast to Tim Blake Nelson. As such, this helps give a solid idea as to what Trank is envisioning for his 2015 film.

This news also suggest that Sue, not Johnny, will be the adopted member of the family, as the news that the part of her brother was given to Michael B. Jordan caused some controversy among fans on the Internet.

Whether or not these theories will be true will have to be determined when the film is released in theaters on June 19, 2015.
