Jessica Chastain isn't really doing 'True Detective,' at least at the moment

Unfortunately, it looks like Jessica Chastain isn’t going to star in True Detective, at least for the moment. Despite a report that she was going to do the second season of the HBO hit, HBO has denied it and Chastain’s rep said that there’s no official word.

This rumor all started thanks to a Nerdist report that Chastain had been offered one of the lead roles.

However, HBO denied the report in a statement to E! News. Then, Chastain’s rep told TheWrap, “I can tell you she's not doing this project officially.”

(Of course, the statement from Chastain’s rep will still keep the hope alive. Is the rep just keeping quiet at the moment because she can’t say anything officially now?)

True Detective had an amazing first season with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, but they will not be back. Creator Nic Pizzolatto has said in the past that he might be interested in casting two women to star in the new season.

Chastain might be too busy to do True Detective. She recently filmed Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, which opens this fall, as does The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby. She’s also been linked to Mission: Impossible 5 and Andrew Dominik’s Blonde. She also has two Oscar nominations under her belt for The Help and Zero Dark Thirty.
