Josh Brolin gets Thanos role in 'Guardians of the Galaxy' (Reports)

Rarely do you hear about any additional casting when a movie comes out in less than three months, but that’s the case with Guardians of the Galaxy. Although Marvel hasn’t confirmed it just yet, several sites are reporting that Josh Brolin is playing Thanos in the film.

The news was first reported by Latino Review, which said that the Oscar nominated actor is voicing the character, who is the main villain in the Marvel universe. Thanos hasn’t made a full-fledged appearance in a film yet, as he was only teased at the end of The Avengers. In that scene, he was played by Damion Poitier.

Thanos will be set up as a major villain for Avengers 3, according to the site. While Latino Review does have a spotty track record, they did get the Bradley Cooper voicing Rocket Raccoon in Guardians correct. In addition, sources for TheWrap and Variety have confirmed Brolin’s casting.

Brolin, who was nominated for an Oscar for Milk, will likely voice Thanos in future films, including Avengers: Age of Ultron. He recently appeared alongside Kate Winslet in Labor Day.

Guardians, which is being directed by James Gunn, will be released on Aug. 1. Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana also star.
