Judge outlines when Oscar Pistorius will receive psyche evaluation

On Tuesday, the judge presiding over the Oscar Pistorius murder trial ordered that the Paralympian will undergo a 30-day psychiatric evaluation starting on May 26.

Good Morning America reported that Judge Thokozile Masipa said that Pistorius will be sent for outpatient evaluation at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital in Pretoria, South Africa every weekday.

The trial will resume on June 30.

The judgment for a mental evaluation of the athlete stems from last week’s testimony by the defense’s expert witness Dr. Merryll Vorster.

The psychiatrist said that the double amputee suffered from anxiety, which may have contributed to his actions the night he killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Pistorius is accused of intentionally murdering the model after the two had an argument in the early morning hours of Valentine’s Day 2013. The sprinter, however, contends that he only shot her after mistaking her for an intruder.

He has plead not guilty to premeditated murder and weapon charges.
