Kevin Love wants to leave Minnesota Timberwolves (Reports)

Kevin Love wants to leave the Minnesota Timberwolves for a more competitive team. Whether it is through trade or free agency at the end of the 2015 season, he wants to play for a contender. He was drafted by the Timberwolves in 2008 and has never been to the playoffs. In six seasons with the team they have never had a winning record. This past season came the closest as they went 40-42 but it seems to be a little too late to keep their 3x all-star power forward.

Love signed a four-year, $62 million contract extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves in January 2012. It seemed like Love wanted to stay in Minnesota, but the deal included an opt-out clause after the third year. Whether he goes via trade, or tries out free agency after the 2015 season, Kevin Love has made it clear that he will not be playing basketball in Minnesota for much longer according to YahooSports.

Throughout his career Love averaged a double-double each game with just over 19 points and 12 rebounds. Over the course of the 2013-14 NBA season he averaged the fourth most points per game (26.1) and third most rebounds per game (12.5). The three-time All-Star is also known for his outstanding shooting ability around the perimeter. In 2012 he won the 2012 Foot Locker Three-Point Contest.

Like most star athletes leaving the team that drafted them, Love wants to play for a championship caliber team. He has shown interest in both the Golden State Warriors and Chicago Bulls via ESPN.com.

Either of these teams would be a great fit for Kevin Love.

Love and Chicago All-Star Derrick Rose have been workout partners for years now in California. After Rose went down with yet another knee injury, Love was eager to tell the press that he was a believer in Derrick Rose according to ChicagoSunTimes. “I have no doubt in my mind that he’ll come back and be D-Rose.’’ The Bulls have also been working to amnesty or trade current starting power forward Carlos Boozer. Love would definitely serve as a viable replacement and immediately put the Bulls in championship contention.

As for the Warriors, their backcourt is among the best in the league between Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Both of them are above average perimeter shooters who demand attention beyond the three-point line. Add Kevin Love to the mix and the three ball will be raining down from all over the court. Opponents will dread defending this trio of three-point shooters. Not to mention Love’s connection to California – he played college hoops at UCLA and was born in Santa Monica, California.
