Keyshawn Johnson will not be charged after domestic violence arrest

The Los Angeles County District Attorney has declined to charge former NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson following an alleged domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend.

According to ESPN, the DA will not be filing charges because Johnson’s girlfriend, Jennifer Conrad, is no longer cooperating.

In a statement Johnson said:

"I am pleased that law enforcement acted quickly and that this matter has been fairly resolved," the statement said. "The quick decision results from the fact that I should not have been arrested because no crime was committed. I did not and would not touch, grab or strike a woman -- any woman. Though Jennifer and I are both pleased that this matter is over, we very much resent the fact that I was ever arrested in the first place. I apologize to my friends, family, fans and colleagues for this matter."

Last month, TMZ reported that police were called to the former NFL star’s home after Conrad alleged that the 40-year-old smashed her phone and cut her hand in the process.

Johnson was arrested and released on $20,000 bail.

The former wide out played in the NFL for 11 seasons spending time with the New York Jets, the Dallas Cowboys, the Carolina Panthers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he won a Super Bowl. He retired in 2006 and has been an analyst for ESPN since 2007.
