Oprah Winfrey releases first audition tape from 1983 (Video)

Oprah Winfrey wasn’t always the media mogul she is today. The successful talk show host and OWN CEO has released her audition tape for the show that launched her career from 1983.

A younger Winfrey, now 60, is seen explaining her roots and how she got her name in her original audition tape, which OWN posted YouTube. She was auditioning for a show called A.M. Chicago, which led her to The Oprah Winfrey Show.

"One day [in 1983] I heard that there was a morning show in Chicago that needed a new host. I had to work all night [cutting together the tape]. I was obsessed with getting this job,” she explained, ABC News reports. “Somehow after all these years, my staff tracked down my original audition tape. I don't know how on earth I got hired."

At the time that she auditioned for the show she was co-hosting a morning show in Baltimore, Maryland.
