Ridley Scott set to direct 'The Martians' with Matt Damon

Ridley Scott is trying to earn the title of Hollywood’s busiest working director. He’s just signed on for another project, this one called The Martians, which will star Matt Damon.

The Martians is set in space and was originally set to be directed by Drew Goddard, notes The Hollywood Reporter. However, Goddard was hired by Sony to direct Sinister Six, so Scott stepped in. Scott will co-produce with Simon Kinberg and Aditya Sood and the project is set at 20th Century Fox.

Andy Weir wrote the self-published 2012 novel that the film is based on and Goddard wrote the script. It centers on an astronaut stranded on a Martian colony and NASA’s attempt to save him. Obviously, Damon would play the astronaut.

Scott, 77, has been on an unparalleled run when it comes to directing, although his films haven’t been successes with critics lately. Since Prometheus in 2012, he has released The Counselor last year and his Exodus with Christian Bale opens in December. He’s also supposed to be working on a Prometheus sequel, which is supposed to come out in 2016.

If Martians is his next film, it would be his 21st feature directing effort.
