Search underway for college student who went missing from O’Hare

Police are searching for a University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign student who went missing from Chicago’s O’Hare airport on Saturday.

According to ABC 7, authorities said that Hye Min Choi checked in for United Airlines Flight 5892, but never boarded that aircraft bound for Greensboro, North Carolina.

“This is completely and totally out of character. He has never done something like this before. He is honestly the epitome of a perfect child,” Choi’s sister told ABC News. “He goes to church every Sunday. He doesn’t really even go out to party or anything like that. He likes to read, he was president of the chess club in high school.”

Investigators also said that the 19-year-old’s flight was set to take off at 7:40 p.m. on Saturday and the last time anyone heard from him was when he called his father around 5:00 that evening.

Police have not released many details about the student’s disappearance, but said he was having some issues at school.

Choi is 5 foot 4 with black hair and glasses. He was last seen wearing a white-hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Chicago police.
