Serena Williams suffers her worst loss ever at the Grand Slam

Serena Williams, #1 tennis player in the world, experienced her worst loss to date at the Grand Slam against Garbine Muguruza of Spain Wednesday.
Serena Williams and older sister Venus Williams were expecting to play the third round together. The last time the two had competed at the Grand Slam was in 2009 at Wimbledon. Unfortunately both women lost during the second round of the Grand Slam today and will be heading home. This isn’t the first time the two have lost during the same round, but nonetheless it is a huge disappointment.
“I have a couple of words to describe it, but I think it would be really inappropriate, so I’m going to leave it at that”, she said when asked how she felt about her defeat. Williams had already lost to Ana Ivanovic at the Australian open. However, Wednesday was her worst loss at the Grand Slam tournament as she only won four games, according to The New York Times.
This year’s French Open was 20 year old Muguruza’s second time playing in the tournament. Last year she lost during the second round. This year she was able to make it past the fourth round during the Australia open. At the French open, Muguruza beat Williams 6-2, 6-2, The National Post noted.
Venus Williams hasn’t been doing her best for quite some time at the Grand Slam tournament. She has lost after the second round every tournament since 2011, with the exception of the 2013 tournament in which she made it to the third round.
“It was one of those days. You can’t be on every day, and, gosh, I hate to be off during a Grand Slam. It’s not the end of the world. It is what it is,” Serena Williams remarked. The National Post
