'Star Wars: Episode VII' director J.J. Abrams, writer Lawrence Kasdan post update on 'Star Wars' Day (Video)

Star Wars Day might have been even more exciting for fans of the franchise if Disney and Lucasfilm waited to announce the cast of Episode VII, but they did not. Instead, the full trailer for Star Wars: Rebels was the major announcement. However, director J.J. Abrams and co-writer Lawrence Kasdan did post a brief update from London.

The two shared a “video selfie” on the official Star Wars YouTube page, with Kasdan and Abrams huddled together in one shot. Although only 23 seconds long, they did wish fans a “Happy Star Wars Day” and said that they miss their families back home.

Abrams did appear to tease that more casting announcements were coming soon. Although most of the new cast was announced last Tuesday, there is wide speculation that there is still another actress to be added.

So far, the new actors joining the franchise for Episode VII are Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Max Von Sydow, Daisy Driver, John Boyega, Domhnall Gleeson and Andy Serkis. Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill will be returning.

Disney and Lucasfilm also released the full trailer for Rebels, a new animated series that will air on Disney XD this fall. It bridges the gap between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope.

Episode VII opens on Dec. 18, 2015.
