Top 10 Reasons Disney Princesses are Bad Role Models

1. It is okay to give up everything, including your heritage and family, for a man

Both Pocahontas and Ariel find a man that they fall in love with and want even though it is seen as unacceptable by their family. Pocahontas is the more realistic one out of the two because it is based on a real historical story and she chooses her family over the man in the end because she doesn’t think it is worth giving up who she is. However, she still shows young girls that it is okay to defy your parents if you really think you know what is best.

Ariel, on the other hand, is arguably the worst influence on young girls out of all the Disney princesses. She trades who she is as a mermaid and her family for a human man that she wants to be with no matter what; she doesn’t know anything about who he is as a person but goes for him because he seems to be a great guy. Her actions are a terrible example for young girls because they are extremely unrealistic. A lot of men are deceitful, so trusting a strange man is perfect for you is a dangerous move. Also a girl should never feel she needs to change who she is or give up her family for a man.
