Toronto mayor Rob Ford says 'rehab is amazing,' vows to 'kick butt' in election

Toronto mayor Rob Ford has spoken for the first time since entering rehab last week and taking a leave of absence. The embattled mayor said that rehab is great and vowed to return to the campaign trail.

In an interview with The Toronto Sun, Ford said that he is doing “great.” He added, “Rehab is amazing. It reminds me of football camp. Kind of like the Washington Redskins camp I went to as a kid.”

Ford explained that he is attending meetings and that he is learning about “myself, my past and things like that,” He is also learning to deal with his anger at his political opponents. Rehab is “worth every penny,” he added.

Ford also sounded determined to get back into campaign mode, but he did not say when he would return to office. “Of course, I am coming back and I am going to kick butt,” he told the Toronto Sun.

When the voters go to the polls in October, they will see Ford’s name, not his brother, Doug, on the ballot. “I will be on the ballot for mayor in October, guaranteed, and I will do well,” he said. “On Oct. 28, there will be no need to change the locks. There will be no need to clean out my office because I am coming back.”

Last week, Ford agreed to take a leave of absence after another video of him smoking crack surfaced.

On Tuesday, the Toronto Star reported that Councillor Doug Ford refused to say where his brother was getting help, but did say that he is getting better.

“He’s doing great. Everybody’s concerned that he’s in rehab. He’s in rehab, he’s doing good, that’s all that matters,” Doug Ford said.

There was also a Globe and Mail report that Ford was going to Chicago for rehab but was denied entry into the U.S. “He voluntarily withdrew his application to enter the U.S.A.,” Consul General of Canada in Chicago, Roy Norton, told the paper, adding that he was “not denied entry, per se.”
