Amelia Slayton Loftus' 'Sustainable Homebrewing' review

Amelia Slayton Loftus has written an extremely timely book on brewing organic beer! Both the novice brewer and the “mash-master” will appreciate this book. You can create an organic product that both tastes great and is eco-friendly.

Amelia takes the reader step-by-step through the process of brewing; from sanitizing your equipment to finding organic ingredients to bottling. She even shows the reader how to reduce waste. This is a very thorough resource that is written with whit and whimsy. Amelia has written a very friendly book without mystery that encourages the reader to try something new and have fun doing it. I can tell you that I am a first time brewer and her insights and advice were very interesting and easy to understand. I liked the way that she didn’t take anything for granted, as far as a persons’ level of expertise in the processes of brewing. She answered a variety of questions that I had with clarity and wisdom that I could trust because she’s done it herself.

Amelia Slayton Loftus brewed her first batch of organic beer in 1995 and has won many homebrewing awards since then. She cofounded Seven Bridges Cooperative in 1997 and it is the only cooperatively owned, certified organic homebrew supply store in the United States. You can locate her at www.amelialoftus.com
