Hip Hop Wired reports that the radio host has announced her resignation from Hip-Hop station, HOT97, via her Instagram.
“This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways,” Martinez wrote. “Thank you HOT97 and most importantly….the listeners… for an unimaginable journey.”
According to MTV, Martinez worked for the station for more than 15 years. As a teenager, Martinez started working as an intern before earning a position of an on-air personality. She hosted a show every weekday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Martinez has also had a successful music career, having released two albums, Up Close and Personal (2001) and Animal House (2002), and appearing on the 1997 hit “Not Tonight (Ladies Night Remix)” alongside Lil Kim, Da Brat, Missy Elliott and Left Eye.
“It’s sad, but it’s also exciting,” Martinez said during her final show Wednesday afternoon. “There’s been things that I’ve wanted to do for quite some time. I have opportunities that I want to pursue.”
Many celebrities gave their support to Martinez via Twitter, letting her know that she will be missed.
