Atlanta Braves lose another pitcher, Gavin Floyd, to injury

The Atlanta Braves have already lost several pitchers so far this season to injury and it looks like they can add another pitcher to that list. Starting pitcher Gavin Floyd was pitching a two-hit shutout when he had to come out after the first pitch of the seventh inning. Floyd said he did not feel any pain but he definitely heard a pop after he threw the pitch.

The early diagnosis is that Floyd broke the olecranon, which is the bony tip of the ulna that sticks out behind the elbow reports ESPN. Floyd is going to have the doctors in Atlanta take a look at him on Friday as this injury is very rare so it is not clear on when he will be able to return to the team.

This is very disheartening for Floyd who had just returned from Tommy John’s surgery this past May is under the harsh realization that his season is probably over and he will have to spend another winter rehabbing his arm in order to come back to baseball.

The official website of the Atlanta Braves said that the Braves are considering calling up Alex Wood from Triple-A Gwinnett to join the starting rotation next week. Floyd is hoping that this injury is not going to end his season but is preparing to face the reality of his situation in the next few days.

“It’s a shame” said Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez. “I feel for the young man”. Floyd has a record of 2-2 and an ERA of 2.65 during his first season with the Braves and he has a career record of 72-72 with over 11 seasons of experience with the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox and the Atlanta Braves.
