Boston Red Sox prevail 1-0

While the Boston Red Sox have struggled this season in one-run ballgames, losing an American League-leading 15 games by one run, they defeated the Minnesota Twins 1-0 on Monday night. This win comes off of two straight one-run defeats at the hands of the Cleveland Indians.
Starter Rubby De La Rosa was spectacular. He pitched seven innings and yielded one hit and three walks. He struck out three and lowered his ERA to 2.84.
"Whether he feels the energy here in this ballpark or is comfortable on our mound, that's clearly the case,” Red Sox manager John Farrell said, reports ESPN. “When a guy possess that type of arm and that repertoire, as long as he throws strikes, he's going to have the ability to get some of the best hitters in the game."
The Twins threatened to score in the top of the eighth inning, as catcher Kurt Suzuki singled, center fielder Sam Fuld doubled, and shortstop Danny Santana loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. Boston reliever Burke Badenhop struck out second baseman Brian Dozier to end the inning and preserve the one-run lead.
Closer Koji Uehara pitched a perfect ninth, recording his 15th save of the year and dropping his ERA to 0.57.
Boston pushed the lone run of the game across the plate in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of catcher A.J. Pierzynski that scored right fielder Daniel Nava.
In each of the next two innings, the Red Sox got runners on first and second with only one out but failed to score any insurance runs.
The Red Sox are now 8-15 in games decided by one run, according to their schedule.
The Red Sox and Twins continue their three-game series on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. ET. The scheduled pitching matchup is Phil Hughes against Jon Lester.
