Brad Pitt speaks out about 'nutter' Vitalii Sediuk who attacked him at 'Maleficent' premiere

It took awhile, but Brad Pitt finally has opened up about the red carpet attack by Vitalii Sediuk on May 28 and explained the situation as he saw it.

The Fight Club actor said he first noticed the Ukrainian prankster in his peripheral vision while singing autographs. "I saw someone stage-diving over the barrier at me. I took a step back; this guy had latched onto my lapels," Pitt said in an exclusive statement to People. "I looked down and the nutter was trying to bury his face in my crotch, so I cracked him twice in the back of the head -- not too hard -- but enough to get his attention."

Pitt added in the statement that he believed Sediuk, who he never actually mentions by name, was only "grabbing for a hand hold" when he knocked off the actor's glasses after security arrived to pry the jokester away.

"I don't mind an exhibitionist," Pitt closed, "but if this guy keeps it up he's going to spoil it for the fans who have waited up all night for an autograph or a selfie, because it will make people more wary to approach a crowd."

As previously reported, Sediuk was hauled off to jail by police after his red carpet antics. He pleaded no contest to a disturbing the peace charge and battery charge on Friday.

Sediuk, who lost his job with a Ukrainian TV network, was ordered to pay a $200 fine, stay at least 500 yards away from Hollywood events, do 20 days of community labor and 36 months of summary probation.

His lawyer, Anthony Willoughby, said that Sediuk didn't plan to do anything, but just randomly decided he wanted to try to hug Pitt and make Angelina Jolie jealous.
