Bride-to-be killed on way to her bachelorette party

A 26-year-old woman, who was set to be married next month, was killed while she traveled as a passenger in her friend’s car on the way to her bachelorette party.

According to FOX4KC, Collette M. Moreno was traveling in her best friend Ashley M. Theobald’s 2013 Chevrolet Malibu on a Missouri Highway when they hit another vehicle head-on.

KCTV reported that Theobald said she decided to pass the truck in front of her because the heavy gas fumes were giving her friend an asthmatic reaction.

"She had bad asthma and there was a truck in front of us that was releasing a lot of exhaust," the 26-year-old Theobald said. "She started coughing."

Just before 3 p.m. the bride and her maid of honor thought it was clear to go around the truck on the two-lane highway. However, at that same moment, Melvin E. Garber, 25, was coming over the top of a hill in his pickup truck.

To avoid a crash both motorists tried to swerve out of the way, but Garber’s truck struck the passenger’s side of the Malibu.

Moreno was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later. Theobald was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. Garber did not suffer any serious injuries.

In addition to her grieving fiancé, Moreno also leaves behind a five-year-old son.
