Clint Dempsey to release rap album

US soccer star Clint Dempsey will be releasing his debut rap album The Redux sometime after the World Cup.

Dempsey’s rap name is Deuce and the album will be 13 tracks, covering topics such as Captain America and scoring goals, Yahoo Sports reports.

Mike Chehade, a producer-friend of Dempsey’s, had the idea for the album in December 2013. Dempsey then went to a recording studio in LA where Chehade hoped to produce another World Cup soundtrack, according to The Wall Street Journal,

“I don’t want to say I tricked him, but I said, we’ll just make some songs and we’ll put out or we won’t, who cares.”

Dempsey told the Wall Street Journal, “We just were having fun with it and it ended up being an album.”

Mike Chehade said he hopes that the record would give the US an edge in the World Cup. “We’re not known as a powerhouse- we’re almost known for being soft. But Clint has this edge.”

This isn’t the first time Dempsey has dove into the rap game. In 2006, he released a music video for the 2006 World Cup called “Don’t tread on me” after Nike heard that he could rap.

Dempsey said the album is dedicated to a rapper named Big Hawk, who helped Dempsey on his first song, and Dempsey’s sister Jennifer, who died at the age of 16 from a brain aneurysm.
