Ed Sheeran's 'X' sells more copies in first week than Coldplay in U.K.

Ed Sheeran’s X was just released and is already doing fantastic business in the singer’s native U.K. The album is the fastest-selling album of 2014 on the other side of the pond, selling more copies in its first week than even Coldplay.

The U.K.’s Official Charts Company said Monday that X started its chart run with 182,000 copies in its first week, notes The BBC. That’s 14,000 copies more than what Coldplay’s Ghost Stories did in its first week.

According to Reuters, Sam Smith’s first album, In The Lonely Hour jumped to No. 2, knocking Lana Del Rey’s Ultraviolence to No. 3. The rest of the Top 5 featured Ghost Stories and Paolo Nutini’s Caustic Love.

“Gecko Overdive” by Oliver Heldens and Becky Hill is the No. 1 track on the Official Singles Chart. This was the first week that the OCC also included streaming data.

Sheeran’s new album features the single “Sing,” which was No. 3 on the singles chart this week.
