Former glam rocker Gary Glitter charged with eight child sex offenses

Former British glam rocker Gary Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, was charged on Thursday for eight child sex offenses.

Glitter is accused of sex offenses stemming from back in the 1970s against two girls who were in their early teens at the time. According to Reuters, he was charged with four counts of indecent assault and one count of sexual intercourse with a girl who was nearly 13 and for also "giving her a drug or other thing to facilitate sex."

The 70-year-old also faces two counts of indecent assault against another girl who was 13 or 14. Chief Crown Prosecutor Baljit Ubhey said in a statement, "Having completed our review, we have concluded ... that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest for Mr. Gadd to be charged."

Five other allegations from others who came forward will not be prosecuted due to lack of evidence.

According to Sky News. Glitter was the first person to be arrested due to Operation Yewtree, which has been investigating UK TV personalities. The investigation began after it was discovered that the late Jimmy Savile had been committing sexual offenses for years.

Since Glitter's arrest, 17 other people have been arrested including Australian entertainer Rolf Harris, who was charged with 12 indecent assault counts and is currently on trial.
