Gregory Polanco hits game winning home run to cap off 5-hit game

On Tuesday the Pittsburg Pirates decided to bring their top prospect, Gregory Polanco, 22, to the major leagues. On Friday, at Marlins Park, Miami, he became the first player in over 100 years to have a 5-hit game that includes a home run within their first four games.

In total he piled five hits and scored three runs – including a game winning two-run home run in the top of the 13th inning to put the Pirates up 8-6 against the Miami Marlins.

Polanco has been the lead-off hitter for the Pirates these past few games.

His home run came against lefty killer Mike Dunn. He waited six pitches to hit his homer and every pitch was a slider. Since 2009, Dunn’s slider has held lefty batters to a .210 batting average and only two home runs according to BleacherReport.

Not only was it a great ending to Polanco’s coming out party, but he got to do it all in front of his mother who traveled down to Miami to watch her son play in the majors for the first time.

''For sure this is my best game ever - the first time she's here watching me play,'' Polanco said. ''I was excited and a little emotional. She's so proud of me, and I know she's feeling excited right now.'' via Yahoo.

Through 26 at bats, Polanco is batting .385 with ten hits, five RBIs, six runs and a home run.
