Home burglar checks Facebook, forgets to log off victim’s computer

An alleged burglar is behind bars because while allegedly robbing a home he checked his social media profile, but never logged off the homeowner’s computer.

According to ABC News, authorities said that Nicholas Wig, 26, was arrested Thursday for allegedly breaking into a St. Paul, Minnesota home. Apparently, the alleged robber just couldn’t stay off Facebook, even while committing the alleged crime and logged into his account, but then forgot to log out on the homeowner James Wood’s computer.

“This is a first case in Dakota County in which a suspected burglar left his Facebook profile on the computer screen of the victim’s computer,” said Monica Jensen, spokesperson for the Dakota County Attorney’s Office.

WCCO reported that Wood returned to his home only to find his house ransacked and his credit cards, watch and cash all gone. He did, however, find some items that were not his including a pair of tennis shoes, jeans and a belt. The alleged thief ditched the items that were wet from the rain outside.

“I started to panic,” Wood said. “But then I noticed he had pulled up his Facebook profile.”

Wig was taken into custody. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

As for the homeowner, he got all his stolen items back and called Wig “world’s dumbest criminal.”
