An Amber Alert was called off Monday after a jogger in Houston found a missing eight-month-old baby alive and abandoned in some brush.
According to the KHOU, Hong Nguyen spotted the infant crying and alone, still strapped in her car seat, along a jogging path around 7:45 a.m.
Law enforcement officials arrived on the scene and transported the baby to the hospital.
Nuyen said she is not a hero, but only did what she was supposed to do.
“That’s my duty as a human being to do that,” she said.
HLN noted that authorities said the search for Genesis Haley started when she was in her mother’s car at a gas station and the vehicle was stolen. Police later found the 2004 green four-door Saturn Ion, without the child’s car seat inside and an Amber Alert was issued around 3 a.m.
The child’s mother told investigators that she had left the baby in her car while she went into the gas station to pay for gas. When she looked out the window, she said saw her car being driven away.
Police are still investigating the case and looking for the suspect.
