Jake Gyllenhaal to make Broadway debut in 'Constellations'

Jake Gyllenhaal will be the latest Hollywood star to appear on Broadway. The Oscar nominated actor has signed on to appear in Constellations.

Constellations was written by Nick Payne and was a hit when it debuted in London in 2012. According to the New York Times, the American production will be staged by the Manhattan Theater Club at the Samuel J. Friedman Theater.

Previews start on Dec. 16 and opening night is set for Jan. 13. Michael Longhurst will direct.

Gyllenhaal has tested his acting chops on the stage before, doing so in a 2002 London production of This Is Our Youth. He also starred in the Roundabout Theater’s Off Broadway 2012 production of If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet by Payne.

As USA Today notes, Gyllenhaal’s sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, will also be appearing on Broadway this fall in Tom Stoppard’s The Real Thing. She will be appearing with Ewan McGregor in that revival.

Gyllenhaal has a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination on his resume for Brokeback Mountain. He recently appeared in Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners and Enemies and also wrapped filming on Nightcrawler.
