Jason Momoa tapped to play Aquaman in 'Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice'

Jason Momoa has signed on to play Aquaman in Warner Bros.' Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

While the actor has been unwilling to comment, as well as reps for the movie studio, sources say that earlier reports were indeed correct and Momoa would be taking on the role of the founding Justice League member, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It has been known since December that the former Game of Thrones actor was in negotiations for a role, but the information was largely kept under wraps, much like the entire project.

Then rumors, first picked up by HitFix, of what exactly that role was cropped up over the weekend, making it appear all but guaranteed that Momoa will be underwater superhero.

In late May, the official title was unveiled for Zach Snyder's sequel to Man of Steel. Momoa will appear alongside Gal Gadot, who is set to play Wonder Woman, while Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill are on board as the titular superheroes.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is set for a May 6, 2016 theatrical release.
