Melissa McCarthy says negative comments in media sometimes 'knock the wind' out of her

Melissa McCarthy gave an in-depth interview about her road to stardom, her personal struggles and raising a family with her husband. Off the heels of successful films like The Heat, Identity Thief and 2011’s Bridesmaids, McCarthy got candid about her career.

"I'll do almost anything for a laugh. I'm completely delighted by people who think, 'I don't care what anybody else thinks, I look great in this, and I rock it and I love it.' It's such a delightful sort of confidence,” she told People.

The 43-year-old actress’ husband, Ben Falcone, whom she shares two kids, Vivian, 7, and Georgie, 4, with, directed for the first time in a comedy they wrote together called Tammy. The film hits theaters on July 2.

She gushed of her husband, "Ben and I will have moments where we look at each other and go, 'This is not bad at all.’ I feel like I got hit with a lucky stick."

McCarthy also talked about the media chatter about her weight, specifically a recent article calling her “America’s plus-size sweetheart.” She admitted “Some things are so malicious, they knock the wind out of you."

She also said of those snarky comments, "It's like I'm managing to achieve all this success in spite of my affliction ... Would you ever put that in the headline for a male star?"
