20,000 Days on Earth premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah in January. The premise of the film was to make his 20,000 day on the planet Earth. The documentary was recognized by the independent film community. The filmmakers were commissioned to shoot video footage for 20,000 Days on Earth, and it was more than a typical rock documentary.

"I couldn't think of anything worse," Cave said, according to the Associated Press. "Because of all the other rock `n' roll documentaries out there that are just such a yawn, that do more damage than they do good. You always walk away from these films about your heroes or people that you're interested in feeling like you'd wish you'd never seen the film."

The documentary is scripted and discusses Cave’s process in creation. Cave has been showing the documentary on his current tour with his band, The Bad Seeds. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, it was announced that the singer will be having a “special” tour in late November and December in the hopes of creating a unique show for fans in Australia. Cave will be performing songs from Push the Sky Away from The Bad Seeds’ last album.
