Ridley Scott will shoot his next film 'The Martian' this fall, says screenwriter/producer

It has already been revealed that Ridley Scott's next film will be The Martian, starring Matt Damon. But details on its production have been skimmed, until now, as screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg revealed that filming is supposed to being this fall.

Kinberg told Jeff Goldsmith in an interview on his podcast The Q & A about the production start date. Additionally, Kinberg revealed that he initially went to Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) to make the movie. While Kinberg said that Goddard wrote an "incredible script," due to his commitment to the upcoming superhero movie The Sinister Six, he wasn't able to helm the film. Thus, Scott took his place, and production is set to begin a couple months down the road.

News first became available of Scott's involvement on the film back in May.

The director is also supposed to be helming a sequel to his film Prometheus, though it is unclear just what is happening with that movie. While the movie is supposed to come out in 2016, and filming was also reported to being this fall once Scott was finished with his latest movie Exodus: Gods and Kings, it is evident that some is getting the wrong information.

Though, it would seem as though the producer of the movie would probably know when his movie is set to get rolling in front of the cameras. It is also possible that production will still begin on Prometheus 2 this fall, but with Scott stepping down and filling in as an executive producer, if that.
