Sigourney Weaver will be returning for 'Avatar' sequels

Avatar is one of the highest grossing films of all time and featured Sigourney Weaver in one of the main roles in the film. Now with the sequels to Avatar already in production, it has been announced that Weaver will be returning for the sequels, even though her character died during the first movie.

ABC News added that James Cameron who is helming the Avatar sequels, said that it felt right to bring Weaver back for the sequels.

“Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made ‘Aliens.’ We’re good friends who’ve always worked well together, so it just feels right that she’s coming back for the ’Avatar’ sequels," said Cameron.

Deadline added that Cameron did go on to hint at how it would be possible for Weaver's character to be brought back to life.

“Her character of Grace Augustine, as fans know, died in the first movie, so she’s playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films,” he explained in his statement. “We’re both looking forward to this new creative challenge, the latest chapter in our long and continuing collaboration.”

James Cameron has worked with Weaver before on Aliens.
